MATH U101 · Narrated walkthrough · Tutorial 5 · Module 3 §14.2
When limits fail, and what continuity means
A narrated lesson on Tutorial 5 Q2, Q3, Q4, Q5 and Q10: the three-part continuity check, where a formula breaks, and the two-path test for showing a limit does not exist. Press play, keep the sound on, and answer the four questions it stops to ask you.
About eight minutes, watch once. The narration stops four times to ask what the next move is. Commit to an answer before it continues: those pauses are the point, because they practise starting a question, not following one. Captions are on by default; the full transcript is below the player.
Redo one question on paper without looking: Q3 or Q4 from Tutorial 5 in the tutorial companion, which also has full written solutions for every question on the sheet. The rules are written up in the Module 3 notes and taught slowly in the Module 3 lesson. For limits that do exist (polar coordinates, the squeeze), see the companion walkthrough, finding limits.
