MATH U101 · Drill · openings only · daily till the 5 Oct mid-sem
Start Drill: the First Two Minutes
Eight calculus questions a sheet, in the shapes the last three mid-sem papers use. You don't solve them. You name the family, write the formula it starts from, translate the numbers into that formula, and set the problem up. Then compare with the model opening and tick what you got. About two minutes each.
Following a solution and starting one are different skills, and starting is the one that hasn't been practised. This drill practises only that, with the arithmetic removed so each rep is quick. The 2025 paper said "answers without proper reasoning will not be awarded marks", so these written first lines are marks in their own right. The routine itself, shown on every past-paper question, is on the how-to-start lesson.
For each question: ① pick the family from the menu. Then, on paper or in the box: ② the formula or definition it starts from, and where it's tabbed in your book; ③ the question's data turned into that formula's ingredients (derivatives at the point, intersections, the gradient …); ④ the set-up (limits of the integral, the system to solve, the candidate list).
Press Compare. Move ① is marked for you; tick ②–④ honestly (a missing "unit vector", a wrong limit or a skipped check is a miss). Don't do the arithmetic: "Now finish it" has the answer if you want it. Some questions are off this year's syllabus. Recognise them, choose "Off syllabus → skip", and move on.
This sheet's eight openings
