EEE U111 · Narrated walkthrough · Module 3 §3.4–3.5

Series RLC, from basics to Oct 2024 Q5(b)

A narrated lesson on second-order circuits. It starts from the switching facts you already know, writes the loop equation, turns it into a quadratic, and sorts the three damping cases. Then it solves the 12-mark past-paper question end to end: vC(t) and iL(t). Press play, keep the sound on, and answer the four questions it stops to ask you.

How to use this

About nine minutes, watch once (use ⏮ ⏭ to replay a scene). The narration stops four times to ask what the next move is. Commit to an answer before it continues: those pauses are the point, because they practise starting a question, not following one. Captions are on by default; the full transcript is below the player. If “can’t jump” and “open in steady state” are new to you, watch the RC walkthrough first.

After watching

Close the page and redo Q5(b) on paper, then write the Q5(a) derivation (6 marks) once from memory: KVL, s² + 2αs + ω0² = 0, the underdamped form, and the two constants. For the parallel circuit (where α = 1/(2RC)) see the parallel RLC walkthrough. The written method is in the Module 3 lesson and notes; the full paper is on the mid-sem past papers page.
